Steinbeis Learning Methodology In a competitive business environment increasingly shaped by the forces of globalization, applied, market-oriented innovation as well as successful products and services are key to safeguarding business success. To be successful, you need to dovetail experience with up-to-the-minute specialist knowledge and need to be able to realize proven products and systems. They who dare, who are willing to try out new, often unconventional approaches, are innovators. At Steinbeis University, the extra-ccupational Project-Competence-Concept that transfers knowledge which is not only based on specific scientific findings – it actively enables junior staff, specialists and managers to practice innovative thinking and realize successful work. Life-long learning, in parallel to a long-term career, is central to the SHB concept. On the one hand, our key priority is the company – with its requirements in terms of content and organization. On the other, is the simultaneous need to accommodate education and careers. Encompassing more than 100 transfer institutes within theSteinbeis network with 800 Steinbeis enterprises, SHB offers a broad selection of customized specialist degrees and training programs, carefully designed to provide specialists and managers with the qualifications business demands. The backbone of our philosophy is formed by the institutes, organized like a “company within the university company”. Each operates autonomously. The university is financed by project and tuition fees so it does not depend on state subsidies. By focusing on the demands of vocational practice, Steinbeis University Berlin has successfully established itself an the Project-Competence-Concept within the landscape of German universities as an independent service provider. There are currently 4000 students enrolled at the Steinbeis University. Project Competence Concept: According to the Steinbeis University Project Competence Concept, Master students work on projects parallel to their studies. Projects are defined by the Institute, students and their companies, enabling integrated solutions in the fields of CSR and Corporate Ethics Management. Steinbeis Competence concepts can be either research based or implementation projects inside your company. Through the projects, students obtain the necessary competence to implement the acquired knowledge in the form of relevant problem solution, while working on a concrete challenging task in a scientific manner. The projects enable students to follow their own interests and objectives during the entire study and also to find better career opportunities. As well as the benefits it presents to the students, Project Competence Concept is also quite profitable for the companies. They not only benefit from the Steinbeis experience in knowledge transfer and obtain a complete project solution, but also have better recruiting opportunities. In order to achieve the greatest benefit from their projects, students are required to apply and transfer the corresponding knowledge of methods and theoretical grounding acquired in the Master Program. The diagrams above illustrate the linkages between the student, the Institute and their workplace vis-a-vis their project. Blended Learning Concept: The international approach of the Master Program as well as the broad geographical spread of the students represents the major motivations behind the introduction of an innovative Blended Learning Concept, which provides for greater access and flexibility. The Institute utilizes the Blended Learning Concept by combining delivery modalities, including face-to-face classroom learning, consultative lessons, live e-learning and self-paced learning. Additionally, students benefit from the possibility of combining these approaches with actual job tasks in order to create a holistic effect from learning and working. The entire Master Study will be accompanied by a mentor, who will provide support and occasional advice to the students in order to help them recognize way in which they can improve the effectiveness of their study/ mentoring/ tutorials. |
